About the Area

Castle Donington is a large village in the North West of Leicestershire, close to Derby, Nottingham and Leicester, on the edge of the National Forest. It is the closest village to East Midlands Airport. East Midlands Airport is served by several major airlines including BMI, Ryanair, EasyJet as well as private aircraft and helicopters. Castle Donington is most famously home to the world renowned Donington Park motor racing circuit, which is indeed now part of its own heritage. The village is a mix of the old and new, with modern shops mixed with beautiful Georgian and Regency houses. Several timber framed houses dating from the 17th century and earlier survive along the main road.

Donington Park has recently been announced as the new host for the British Formula One Grand Prix from 2010.  It last hosted a Formula One Grand Prix in April 1993 which was won by Ayrton Senna and which is widely recognised as one of Senna's greatest ever wins. The circuit also hosts the Donington Grand Prix Collection, the world's largest collection of Formula One and Grand Prix vehicles. Donington Park has a strong connection with motorbike racing and is a perennial favourite for the Superbikes and Moto Grand Prix.

Donington Park was the original venue for the Monsters of Rock heavy metal festivals through the 1980s and 1990s, and is now the home of the annual Download Festival.

In recent years Donington Park has built a reputation as an excellent facility for trade fairs and exhibitions.  Its excellent road networks via the M1, M42 and A50 make this a popular venue for many events throughout the year.
